Chamber led coalition pushes Congress for transportation bill

This past week, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce continued to push an aggressive media campaign urging Illinois Members of Congress to pass a long-term, fully-funded transportation bill.

The Illinois Chamber of Commerce, joined by members of the Transportation for Illinois Coalition held a press conference on Tuesday in Springfield, generating media all over the State (see below for a full list of clips). The media event was part of an overall strategy to educate the public and Members of Congress about the economic importance of passing a long-term, fully-funded transportation bill and to release a report showing the impact of under-funding on Illinois’ transportation system. Members of the Illinois Chamber founded Transportation for Illinois Coalition have met throughout the year with the Illinois Congressional Delegation, held press conferences, editorial boards and letter writing campaigns in support of transportation funding.

Earlier this year, the coalition successfully defeated a proposed 35% cut to federal transportation funding and is applying that momentum to passing a long-term bill before March 31st 2012 when federal transportation funding will cease.
