Senate Holds Committee of the Whole on Medicaid
Last week the Senate held a committee of the whole to start working on a process for fixing the state’s massive Medicaid problem. In his budget address last month, Governor Quinn stated he wants Medicaid spending reduced by $2.7 billion next fiscal year. Quinn also announced a special working group made up of bi-partisan legislators.
Senators heard a presentation by the health policy director for the National Conference of State Legislatures. The presentation was an overview of Medicaid and included what other states have done to cut spending and what they plan to do in the future. The director also provided tips for what Illinois should consider when making cuts. Click here to view the presentation.
